Please can any one help? i have a 04 galaxy 1.9tdi 130bhp which appears to be wearing both front tyres on the outer edges, this is the first galaxy i have owned. All previous Fords have never worn tyres quite like this, the galaxy has covered 15k miles.

If it's the outer edges of the tyres it's tracking or geometry

If it's the edges of each tyre it's low pressure.

If it's the centre of each tyre it's high pressure.

Thanks for your suggestions i've booked it in to my local dealer to investigate they quickly checked pressures and said they were fine.he did mention something about torque through front wheels being a 130 they are prone to tyre wear.My reply was yeah if you wheel spin every where.he was not impressed. This is my first galaxy it's taken me many years to afford one so i'm not going to drive it like some joy rider it is my pride and joy.hopefully they can sort the problem.

If you live somewhere where there's lots of roundabouts (eg Milton Keynes where I live), 15k isn't bad for front tyre on a big heavy powerful car like this. I've had three and they have all had different sized tyres but all wore out fronts in 12-15K miles

If you are getting 15,000 from the fronts you are doing ok. My previous 2.3 had the Dunlops changed at 14.000, present Gal's Michelins have done 15,000 & I will be looking to change them soon. With these greasy roads at present (salt, etc.) it's very easy to get wheelspin, especially with the torque from the diesel (!) which doesn't help the tread life & you get torque steer if not careful which isn't very pleasant.

Anyway, you are looking at around

Mine have worn in exactly the same way in only 8000 miles. I mentioned it at the tyre place I use in case it was to do with alignment. He didnt seem too surprised at the wear, he blamed it on the weight of the vehicle, power steering, relatively wide tyres, and in my case short local journeys. I'm convinced it doesnt help that I do a 180degrees turn on full lock to get onto the drive.... plus my Audi 80 seemed to wear tyres in a similar way... maybe its a VW suspension set up type thing....

Mine are now 21,500 and still going, almost ready to be changed but still well on the legal side). As I have said many times, I am a gentle driver though which seems is now paying dividends.

I am still on my second set of Continental Sport Contacts at 65,000 miles. Just measured them all at between 4.25mm and 5mm tread. (I changed the first set at 2.2 mm).
